About

The Dracophant is a legendary creature from the wind swept Savannah. Of unknown origin, the Dracophant is the sworn guardian of elephants and is rumored to have the blood of Bahamut (the King of the Good Dragons) in his veins. Countless armies and scores of beasts have been smashed skewered and trampled by the benevolent beast as it protects the herds of the planes – beware poachers!

Contents

The review sample sent was a Dracophant, a creature from the world of Skoog. The Dracophant measures 100mm tall to the top of its ears and around 190mm long from the tip of its trunk to the curved bit of its tail (not the end of its tail). The Dracophant was originally an 11-piece kit, but the decision was made to sell it as an assembled kit. It is cast in metal and supplied unpainted.

The Dracophant was sculpted by Federico Genovese (aka IG88), and was donated to Newbold Games as part of their Newbold Challenge 2008. Federico also painted the model seen above.

The Good

I really love the concept and look of this miniature. I was also quite grateful that it came cast in one piece – it is an extremely heavy model and would have undoubtedly required a great deal of pinning and prep time.

The “best” of the “good” is that this is being sold for a very worthwhile cause… The Newbold Challenge.

The Challenge is essentially a series of sponsored competitions (creating artwork, painting figures or sculpting figures) and a series of related charity auctions designed to raise funds for two of the UK’s most famous registered charities, Children in Need and Comic Relief.

Our overall target is to raise more than £25,000 GBP ($50,000 USD or 37,500 euros) for the two charities combined during the five year period ending on 31 December 2010. You can keep right up-to-date with our progress against target here.
