The rulebook for Field of Glory is a 7.6” x 9.6” hardcover, with 172 full-color pages pages. It includes all of the rules necessary for play, along with special rules covering things like camels, elephants and field fortifications, to name a few. The book also contains a valuable reference section that includes appendices for everything from troop types to points values.

The Good

€30 for this 224-page hardbound book is more than a fair price. Just one look at it and you can see that it has been written with a lot of love and care. It is beautifully laid out, with wonderful full-color art and loads of fluff.

Play is fast and furious, and even with the slightly more complex rules compared to other skirmish games, it is still a familiar “I Go – You Go” system.

Why this game isn’t more popular I honestly don’t know.

The Bad

Unfortunately, there were no scenarios included in this book – and I found that the game plays not much differently with the quick-start rules than it does with the full rule-book. I also thought that it may be a little more complex than necessary. These things, along with a lack of an index in the book kept it from getting a higher rating.

I’m also not a fan of the manga-style. It wasn’t as “over-the-top” like I have seen in other books from other publishers, so it is passable.

I also discovered numerous typos. While this did not distract from the gameplay, it did bother me somewhat.
