Review: Oddział Ósmy assorted miniatures

Oddział Ósmy is a Polish manufacturer of miniatures. Their name means means “The 8th Detachment.”. They produce 2.7mm (1/600th scale aka 3mm), 15mm, and 20mm.

The review sample sent was a baggie filled with mixed 1/600th scale miniatures cast in metal. There were approximately 75 individual minis from both the modern and WWII eras. Since there was such a mix involved, I am forced to include this review in the “Generic” section as opposed to the Modern or WWII ones.

The Good

The detail is absolutely incredible. While I am not a fan of this scale of gaming (unless it comes to naval battles) and have little experience in dealing with it, the fact that there were discernible hubcaps on a 1/600th scale Hummer blew me away.

The Bad

None of the planes or helicopters had stands or propellers. As I do “out of the package” reviews, this severely effected my ratings. Also, given that there were simply so many miniatures mixed together it made it impossible to do individual reviews or even genre reviews – as simply sorting out the tanks took an hour.

While I am extremely well-versed in modern vehicles as well as those from WWII, at this scale I had no idea what was what when looking at the troops themselves.

While I received these from Oddział Ósmy themselves and not via one of their distributors, it is likely that the packing method is quite different than what one would normally experience – however I feel that readers should be aware of this.

The planes and helicopters were also a different type of metal from the ground vehicles and troops – the latter being a rather brittle type which would require a great deal of care in removing the flash to prevent breakage.

The Ugly

None.
