BayonetGames p500 in trouble

Brant Guillory from Bayonet Games reports:

We’re rapidly approaching the 1-year anniversary of the p500 going live. What’s so significant about that? Because of the way the credit card company holds/processes the orders, I have until about 1 week prior to the 1-year mark on someone’s order to cancel it before it automatically goes through. And since we’re still a long way from the orders needed to go to press, I’m leaning toward canceling.

I hate doing this. I really want these games to get out to the public. But right now, there’s not enough interest to make publication viable without taking on a lot more debt than I can afford right now.

So unless 45-50 orders for one of the games magically appears out of nowhere, it’s still going to be a while before they escape the playtesting room. In time for Origins? Maybe, but there’s a lot going on with my ‘real’ job, plus trying to finish my dissertation, that’s getting in the way.

If a bunch of orders suddenly roll in, then it might be profitable enough to put some other stuff on hold and wrap these up to get out the door. But right now, seeing as how the last order to trickle in was over 3 months ago, I can’t really hold my breath, and we might be pulling down the p500 site in mid-February.

I hate doing this, because you guys all showed a lot of interest and faith in these games. I still want them published. I just don’t think right now is going to turn out to be the right time.
