Review: Sci-Fi Habitat

CT-Scenery recreates complete cities and urban settings in 28mm scale, 3D and durable at a moderate price.

All constructions are designed so that players can enjoy a maximum playability. Buildings can be opened at all levels. The inside is sculpted to improve tactical and visual pleasure. We believe this to be part of intensive gaming and create a more realistic sense in large battle systems and skirmish based games.

Their main concepts are “sets”, “projects” and “tabletops”:

Projects and tabletops are hand made and of the highest quality. They use a variety of materials depending on your needs and the effects we are trying to achieve.

“Sets” only require painting and assembly and you are ready to go. The “sets” are made of G-Super or Gellisuper, being equal to resin in terms of solidity and detail. The product is about 15 times more dense as high quality molding plaster, once dried it is even as solid as concrete! It has all the advantages of plaster: easy to work with and no need of undercoats. You can directly start to paint the surface of your pieces without need of a primer. No expensive superglue for assembly; only a fine layer of PVA glue. Thanks to the G-Super chemicals, the material dries fast and becomes united with the other pieces.

“Projects” and “Sets” can be combined, since they often use pieces especially designed to make the targeted result.

The review sample sent was a multi-part Sci-Fi habitat, which shipped in individually wrapped pieces in a large box.

Assembly

CT-Scenery supplies online instructions on their website.

All you’ll need (according to them) are sandpaper, a brush, PVA glue and less than 1 1/2 hours of your time (dry-time included).

I discovered that it actually took about 3 for full drying time, perhaps due to me using a different type of PVA glue than CT uses.

The Good

This is a very nice piece of terrain, which can be used with all manor of Sci-Fi gaming (from Star Wars to 40K to AT-43).

The materials used appear at first touch to be quite brittle, and I was very concerned that I would damage it during assembly. However, they are actually quite durable, and my fears were quickly put to rest.

While not centerpiece-type terrain, this habitat will definitely spruce up your gaming table, and I can seriously recommend picking up a few of them!

As another definite “plus” – I’ve been in contact with CT-Scenery for quite some time now and can vouch for their excellent customer service and prompt response to email. Combine this with a great product, and you cannot go wrong.

The Bad

None.

The Ugly

None.
