Court grants Konami preliminary injunction against Upper Deck
The California Central District court has granted Konami Digital Entertainment a preliminary injunction against Upper Deck, prohibiting Upper Deck from claiming that it is an authorized distributor of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, from selling any Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG product after Konami terminated its distribution agreement with Upper Deck Dec. 11, and from using Konami’s trademarks, art, and text.
The ruling is part of a lawsuit against Vintage Sports Cards and Upper Deck, which accuses Upper Deck of supplying vintage with counterfeit Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
Upper Deck has ceased online and event support for the game in response to the ruling. A statement from the company said, in part, “We do not feel that this course of action is in the best interest of the players.”
