Shepherd’s Pie – Melange a Trois
I know. I know. It’s been a few days since I’ve delivered any new content here. Shit happens. Life happens. Finishing Alan Wake happened (stay tuned for my review). I’m here, and you are too. I’m glad you came back to see what I have to say. And yes. I know that my title means “mixture of three.”
I’ve had a number of great and interesting links shot my way, mostly by the cannon of connectivity called Twitter. I also have a new Twitter app for iphone that I’m using almost exclusively right now, kicking the tires. It’s HootSuite and so far, it’s performing well. Tonight’s post is another “Shepherd’s Pie” with a bevy of juicy links for you to follow:
PC Gamer gives a pretty good defense of why not all games need to have multiplayer modes. Let’s face it. Not every game is meant to be a social experience. I tried playing Alan Wake the other day while in a party and it almost ruined the entire chapter for me. Some games stand alone. Don’t try to make them something they’re not. Just let them do what they do well.
Berin Kinsman, a.k.a. Uncle Bear, tells us that not all characters should be created equal. If you’re a tabletop gamer, you should read this. His last line is my favorite.
After an article from Jeremy Hsu, a Yahoo! Live Science writer, that explains why gamers are better at having lucid dreams and escaping from their nightmares than the “average person”, Kotaku’s Michael Fahey goes there and gets that Dokken song stuck in my head. Yay for 80′s hair metal! Or not. As you wish.
For all you guys (or girls) out there that thought Miranda from Mass Effect 2 was the hottie of your dreams, Filamena Young shared this via Twitter. If you were dreaming of getting a piece of her virtual ass, maybe you should go take a long hard look at the man in the mirror.
It appears that a certain house in Amityville, NY is for sale again. I guess most people still don’t realize that The Amityville Horror is an admitted hoax. I did a book report on that novel in 2nd grade, so this is still interesting to me. And, I know. I was already twisted, even then.
In honor of the 30th Birthday of Pac-Man, David Hill, Jr. posted his “10 Reasons Why Pac-Man Sucks” which was picked up by The Escapist. It’s a hilarious read, but even better are the comments by the readers who didn’t get the joke.
I have a trio of posts in the works that should be hitting Geekcentricity by the weekend. The first is a response to one of the most personally resonant gaming articles I’ve ever read. That should make an appearance some time tomorrow. Also due up is a piece I’ve been working on about Camelot as an archetypal story setting. The third is my review of Alan Wake.
