Daleks are cyborgs from the planet Skaro, integrated within a tank-like or robot-like mechanical casing. They show little, if any, individual personality, ostensibly no emotions other than hatred and anger, and a strict command structure in which they are conditioned to obey superiors’ orders without question.

In terms of their behavior, Daleks are extremely aggressive, and seem driven by an instinct to attack. This instinct is so strong that Daleks have been depicted fighting the urge to kill or even attacking when unarmed. The fundamental feature of Dalek culture and psychology is an unquestioned belief in the superiority of the Dalek race, and their default directive is to destroy all non-Dalek life-forms. Other species are either to be exterminated immediately, or enslaved and then exterminated later once they are no longer useful.

It is nearly impossible to negotiate or reason with a Dalek, a single-mindedness that makes them dangerous and not to be underestimated.

Daleks have the ability to fly both in the vacuum of space and within a planet’s atmosphere.

Genetically speaking, all Daleks are male, and every Dalek mutant has a genetic sample taken and stored at reproductive factories. When a new Dalek is created, cells from two different Daleks are thawed and combined to form an embryo.

Rather then names, Daleks are coded by rank/position and number. This identification is seen as a horizontal oblong depression at the front base of the cowl contains an identifying ideogram.

In 5 BBY, a single Dalek was among those participating in the droid rebellion led by C-3PO (outfitted with modified programming) against Boonda the Hutt on Nar Shaddaa. No information is available as to what part this Dalek played, or as to what may have happened to it following the rebellion – which ended with the freeing of all of the droids.

During the time of the Emperor, cyborgs like these were not considered citizens under Imperial law, as Daleks were a species that did not undergo the required surgery to be sponsored by a corporation or government.
