Newsweek uses the Konami Code
My Twitter bud Patrick Prejusa pointed out that Newsweek is using the Konami Code on their website.
The Konami Code, for those not in the know, is a cheat code that appears in many Konami video games. The code was first used in the 1986 release of Gradius for the Nintendo Entertainment System and later made famous in the NES version of Contra.
While pausing the game or during the title screen, the player could press the following sequence of buttons (followed by the start button) on the game controller:
On Newsweek’s site, all of their front page stories are replaced with news about zombies.
Perhaps the most amusing part of the entire set-up was that by clicking on the “Read More” links, you were taken to a search result page for the term “tea party“.
While this isn’t an original concept – there are lots and lots of “Konami Code websites” out there – I hadn’t seen Newsweek’s version.
Well played, Newsweek.
