Free Form Friday: Second Installment
Welcome to the second installment of “Free Form Friday.” Is it just me or does the word installment just sound… painful? Oh, I guess it’s just me, then.
Jason kicked it off last week by fielding some questions from our readers that were gather via Twitter and our Facebook page. This week, I’m still answering questions that I was asked throughout the week, but I’m doing it a bit differently.
Why?
Because it’s anarchy, baby! Let me cue up some 70′s punk and get down to business.
I hear you’re playing a new game. Are you running it? Tell me more. – David
I am playing a new game. Well, it’s not exactly new, but it’s new to me. Tonight is the first night of my new Pathfinder game. The only things I’ve GMed for the past year are convention games (I was going to say “con games” but that’s something entirely different, now isn’t it?). Fiasco doesn’t count, because it is inherently a one-night game with no GM.
In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, or don’t play tabletop role-playing games, Pathfinder is a game published by Paizo, the guys who used to publish Dragon & Dungeon Adventures magazines. Many people call it Dungeons & Dragons 3.75 because it feels like the next evolution from the 3.5 edition of D&D. Is it a perfect game? No. Does it fix a lot of the things that were problems in D&D 3.5? Yes.
How is the writing coming? – Steve
Truth is, it’s been better. My day job consumed an incredible amount of my life during the holiday season, and I feel like I played catch-up all through January. I spent a few days this week on other projects when I could have/should have been working on the novel. But there were some things I needed to do. Also, I’m stuck. I will get unstuck, but I’ve been working on the outline, trying to get a few key elements of this supernatural crime-thriller knocked into shape. I hoped to have the outline finished by February 1st. That was the deadline I gave myself. I am just missing some major plot elements that I am working through right now. It will come. The muscles are just out of shape. Yes, Steve. I will get back on-track.
What is this about ice cream bread? That sounds like a fantasy. – C.H.
It was a fantasy, except now it’s a reality. Let’s get this straight. I’m not much for baking. Cooking? I can do that. I just don’t consider myself a baker. But when fellow geek Donald Dennis posted a link to an Instructable about ice cream bread, I had to try making it. It was incredibly easy to make and came out phenomenally well. I recommend you try it. I used an egg in addition to the recipe at the link.
I leave you with these questions: What games are you playing these days? Do you have any awesome recipes to share? Please answer in the comments below!
