Free Form Friday: Geek Stew
Here at Geekcentricity we love Free Form Fridays. It’s something that every single staff writer has enjoyed doing and it’s something I hope to continue. You know what else I hope continues? Fringe. I hope Fringe continues. If you’re not watching Fringe, there’s SERIOUS need for a geek-intervention in your life. I’m only telling you this because I care.
Renee Marie asks “What do you guys have to say about the Gmail fiasco?”
For me, not much. I use Mozilla Thunderbird as my primary email client and I have it set so that when it hits the server it pulls everything down and doesn’t stay on the Gmail database. Call me a control freak, but I prefer to store as much stuff as possible locally so that, y’know, I can keep it if Google explodes or some maniacal dictator shuts down the internet. Luckily, I didn’t fall in the .28% of victims anyway…reflex save = win.
For those out in the interwebs who lost all your free email which was stored for free in your FREE email account that’s usually leaps and bounds above those for which you pay…c’mon, man, give them a break.
Besides, they’re fixing it.
Thalius asks “In this room is an orc and a pie…what do you do?”
I think it’s pretty obvious. Orcs are part of the Horde…and whichever god you pray to KNOWS that the dirty stinking Hordies deserve no pie. I dare say they deserve no baked goods of any kind. I shall deftly maneuver like a ninja, loot the pie, bubble, and hearth. (WoW Reference FTW)
Lots of people ask “is Geekcentricity a war-gaming site?”
Any good spiritual or religious writer will tell you “Don’t write your faith. Instead, LIVE your faith and write your LIFE.” The same applies to us geeks. The staff writers here at Geekcentricity write their life, and 40% of those lives LOVE some wargaming. That makes the Average War-gamer Ratio here .67:1
The Wisconsin State Legislature is currently working on a proposal to lower the AWR.
However, those of you who frequent Geekcentricity know that we have content for every kind of geek. Wargaming Geeks, Role-playing Geeks, Video Game Geeks, Tech Geeks, Book Geeks, Anime Geeks, MMO Geeks, Family Geeks, Single geeks, Fat Geeks, Girl Geeks, Audio Geeks, Cheap-ass Geeks…etc. That’s why it’s important to check in everyday, you never know what kind of awesome will show up.
Nobody at all asked “Hey Jason! Why is your personal blog so dead?”
Excellent question, citizen. Quite simply, the problem is time. I have a full time day-job (oh god, please make it stop) as well as a wife (a smokin’ hot red-head) a baby (lil’bundle of nerd) a weekly podcast (DBLR) and I’m also back in school pursuing a more marketable degree (the two I already have aren’t enough.) My blog will return once the sanity does. Heck, I’m barely maintaining enough posts to keep my unpaid job here at Geekcentricity.
Do YOU want to be a staff writer for Geekcentricity, have your name up in bright lights and mastheads, and be the envy of LITERALLY* gazillions of people everywhere while only submitting a small smattering of work? I recommend you bribe The Grand Geek with different types of food. My next bribe will take the form of Twinkie Milkshakes.
(* Note: Not actually literal)
That’s it for today’s entry. If you would like your question answered by the Geekcentricity crew, leave it in the comments below and look for it in a future edition of Free Form Friday.
