I Demand Moar Chris Pine
I really don’t want to say this, but I never really watched Star Trek as a child. The only series (“series” is both singular and plural, I made sure) that were on around that time were in the early to mid-nineties (except for Voyager, which never fails to put me to sleep), so if I had somehow caught a show in between episodes of Sesame Street, I wouldn’t remember. I did watch Reading Rainbow, though, so I didn’t miss out on LeVar Burton.
Now that I am (physically, not mentally) older, I have seen re-runs of old episodes, mainly of TNG, and am far too excited about the new additions to the franchise. I cannot frakking wait for the new movie to come out. A lot of people were (and are still) angry and disappointed with the Star Trek movie released in 2009, but I love it. I think it’s a fresh storyline, and the approach really drew in my generation. The cast is much younger than normal, pulling in new audience members. Do you hear that, Jason? I don’t care about keeping the masses happy. You guys have more of this to look forward to (and I have more of this to look forward to). Furthermore, I think they could take this somewhere awesome. I predict lasers and explosions and KHAAAAAAN! I’m also very curious to see how Spock and Uhura’s relationship turns out.
A good majority of the original Star Trek movies were pretty awful, and I want to say I prefer the feature-length films to a new series. There’s more action and more depth to the storyline in twoish hours than in 30 minutes. I can wait two years for another movie, that’s no problem. It’s just that I’m so lazy I never catch TV shows. I never get around to watching what I record on DVR. I usually look episodes up online, then eventually even that will become too taxing for me, so I just quit. That’s how I watched the first two seasons of Burn Notice but now have no idea what’s going on. I have seen every episode of the Nanny, though. I’m not quite sure how that happened.
Now like I said, I never really watched Star Trek, so I can’t attribute my strange love for sci fi and Sharktopi to this show. I’ll have to credit Star Wars (blasphemy) and Bill Nye. I will say, however, I missed out. I have watched many episodes now, but I do wish I had grown up with Star Trek. Maybe I would be more into it. It’s almost like being in a club. I’m a little envious. I also missed out on the Member’s Only trend. My life just sucks.
Star Trek will be remembered for years to come as one of the most influential series created. The sheer amount of fans that follow this universe prove this fact. As previously stated by Jonathan, this show made way for many others like it, including the lovely Firefly, and as a geek, I’m in debt.
A question to you readers: Kirk, Picard, Archer, Sisko, or Janeway and why? Also, who was the best James Bond?
