Free Form Friday: The Accidental Time Travel Edition
Things sometimes don’t go as planned.
As most of our steadfast readers are aware, we do this little thing called “Free Form Friday”, where the Geekcentricity staff take turns answering life’s questions.
Now, I had already ran my FFF post last week – and this week was to be the lovely Carmen’s turn. But that didn’t get to happen – so I am going back in time (I write this on Saturday the 9th, even though you’ll see it as though it was posted on Friday the 8th) to bring you your regularly scheduled post.
Worst or most over-rated musical artists of all time? - via email
Well, obviously Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are right up there… but at the top of my list is the group known as The Beatles. As a band, they were horrid tripe. I’ve never heard a Beatles cover song that wasn’t better than the original. And while the 4 individual members were all fantastically talented musicians – in all honesty I think that together they were garbage.
You Danes are a little famous (or is that infamous) for that whole Muhammad cartoon thing. Now, after a few years, do you think that was a good idea? - via email
Honestly, if I had a shirt with one of the Muhammad drawings on it, I’d wear it down the street even today. They are just drawings. They didn’t start out as (at least I don’t believe they did) anything other than that. Unfortunately, the Danish government ended up using them as a “look at me, I’m an attention whore” thing – acting as though our country is a bastion of free speech. You’ll find that in actuality – we’re far from it. You can’t even call a police officer a derogatory word without getting arrested.
If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be? - asked by one of my students
If not the United States, then most assuredly either South Africa or Hong Kong.
What was the first comic book you ever read? – via DM in Twitter
Ummmmm. This is a tough one. I know it was a Savage Sword of Conan magazine. Looking at a cover gallery, it seems as though it was Savage Sword of Conan #102.
That’s it, Geekamaniacs… hopefully next week we’ll be back to our regular schedule!
