What are your thoughts on the upcoming “The Hobbit” films in production?

Are you excited, sad, could care less?

Darren: I want to see Smaug on-screen.

JonathanYeah not a terrible CGI version.

EricI been waiting for the hobbit films since 04…lol… I actually had more fun reading the hobbit than the lord of the rings….. Long story, not sayinf it’s better but bilbo is a better character than frodo…. And the hobbit it very adventerous.  Also, I think smaug is gonna be more impressive on screen than even the balroc from the fellowship  :)  can’t wait… Also, aragon is probably my favorite character but beorn the berserker is another favorite character of mine and he can only be found in the hobbit.

Brian: I can’t wait. I’ve been waiting for The Hobbit since the end credits rolled on Return of The King in ’03, and am glad it has become reality.

How do we feel about it being split into two films? Is it necessary?

Is it just another way for them to make more money?

EricIt’s pretty necessary…. Have you seen the hobbit?  It’s a pretty large book…… There’s a lot of stuff In the lord of the rings movies that were skipped but insignificant things… In the hobbit…. Everything is pretty significant… Making it into one movie will be tough cause I can’t imagine it not being 4 hrs long like the return of the king extended….. Lol…. It’s possible to make one but it’ll be rough (a lot to cover)…. I think it’ll be good for fans for the movies to be 2 or 2 and a half hrs long…. This way they can take their time with that story and not seem like they rushed it causing of aspects of the story being skipped… You know.

JonathanProbably not necessary. But glad they are.

BrianIf The Hobbit was done as one film, it could easily handle the things from the book. It is, after all, a children’s book, and not a very long one at that. With that said, I want more Middle-earth. Having two films allows additional back story, that while may be unimportant to the casual film viewer – is very important to Tolkien fans.

Where would you make the cut between the two movies?

BrianRight after the escape from the wood elves, when they are floating down the river.

Maurice: Dammm I need to pick up “The Hobbit” and read it again. I can’t even remember when I read it. (or at least tried to) But I love epic tales like this and am very excited to see it on the bog screen. Also, Peter Jackson’s involvment in the project really legitimizes it as the real deal. From a technical viewpoint, I’m also excited as these films will be the first to be shot at 48 frams per second rather then the traditional 24. The doubling in speed will enhance the picture quality and the 3D effects. Yes they will be in 3D.

How do we feel about a 48fps 3D Hobbit Movies?

BrianI don’t watch 3D movies, so that part of it is uninteresting. I’ll just see the “regular” version. And honestly, I am a little dubious if the 48 fps will make a difference or simply be a gimmick like 3D.

WillieExciting news for both previous fans of the hobbit and newcomers who haven’t read the book. The Lord of the Rings could stand on its own, but how can we truly grasp the depth of the amazingly produced trilogy if we don’t go back to where it all began? In the Hobbit we are introduced to middle earth, a much younger Gandalf the Gray, and an unlikely hero in the form of Bilbo Baggins, a stark contrast to the conflicted Frodo, whose inner battle with the ring’s influence was equally paramount to the battle for middle earth. Will have to pick up the book and read again. It’s been a while since I’ve visited middle earth, and will have to pick up my sword from the storage! Agree with Brian. 3D Movies are definitely gimmicky, and will take away what we loved most about the trilogy: it’s perfectly seasoned blend of character development, constant action, and brilliant background music.

Maurice: Wow Willie, well said, I didn’t know you had it in you.
