Jonathan Roberts, cartographer for Kobold Quarterly, Sunken Empires, and The Breaking of Fostor Nagar, presents another Fantastic Map: “The Watchfire Keep”.
Rite Publishing has set up a prelaunch website for its upcoming kickstarter project The Demolished Ones FATE based adventure. It is a steampunk, noir, victorian quest for identity in the strange world of The Dome.
The creators of Villains & Vigilantes, Jeff Dee and Jack Herman, have filed a federal copyright lawsuit against the game’s longtime publisher Scott Bizar.
Wargames

No Retreat: The Russian Front is a new deluxe edition of the two-player Victory Point Games 2008 CSR Award Nominee wargame that retells the story of the titanic struggle between the invading armies of Nazi Germany versus Communist Russia during WW2 at a player-friendly and manageable level of scope and difficulty. Features six quick-playing scenarios plus a tournament scenario. Price: $60.
Worthington Games expects to have a new print run of Guns of August for Fall 2011. There are no immediate plans on a reprint for Hearts and Minds. The publisher also has issued a low stock alert on Boots on the Ground.
New from Valley Games. Commands and Colors: Napoleonics Dice are an attractive alternative to the dice that come with Commands and Colors Napoleonics. They are lacquered wood dice in black with embossed symbols. Price: $8.
Board Games
Steve Jackson stated that the upcoming sixth edition of Ogre won’t be out until earliest 2012.
The Spiel der Spiele (Austria’s prestigious Game of the Year award) – has been announced by the Wiener Spiele Akademie, and the winner is Wolfgang Kramer’s Asara, which was also a Spiel des Jahres nominee. The Akademie also dubbed several games as a “Spiele Hit”, those being split into four categories:
- For experts: The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game
- Among friends: 7 Wonders and Fortytwo
- For families: Mord im Arosa, Qwirkle, Uluru and Voll in Fahrt
- For children: LEGO’s Heroica series and Schusselhexe
CCGs
ChangYou.com (US), a leading publisher of free-to-play massively multiplayer online games (MMOG) in North America, announced Sword Girls, an all-new anime online collectible card game (CCG), will enter its closed beta phase on October 12, 2011. The first trailer is available for viewing on the official website at www.SwordGirlsOnline.com.
