Review: Dystopian Wars – Federate States of America (FSA) Battle Group by Spartan Games

Recently we reviewed the Covenant of Antarctica battle group box, and now we’re continuing the review with the FSA battle group box.

So here we have the box in a similar lay out as the Covenant’s.  The outline of the contents is on the back along with a little fluff and the obligatory group photo on the front.

The FSA battle group also comes with the condition marker cards, templates, and such as other boxed sets do.  Since this fleet was outlined more clearly in the Dystopian Wars core rulebook, there is no fleet book accompanying this set like the one that came with the Covenant of Antarctica battle group.

As to the models, the battle group again comprises of ten flyer tokens, two A-17 Winged Fortress Class Bombers (metal), nine Augusta Class Frigates, three Lexington Class Cruisers, and one Independence Class Battleship along with all accompanying FIGs.  As has been consistent so far with other offerings from Spartan, the figures are of a high quality with little excess flash and no observable defects or warps.  Again this is a nice change if you’re accustomed to other resin producing companies QA issues.  I really like how Spartan tied in the paddle wheel design with the ships for the FSA.  Also the American development of the automated loading system allows for the single barreled cannons on the ships to fire at the same rate as the triple barreled-hand loaded cannons from other countries.

Spartan has once again provided a tremendous quality product that paints easily due to its excellent attention to detail.  The finely raised edges lend themselves to drybrushing (as does the scale).  So if you’re into the US, go check out the FSA fleets and see what you think.
