About Andrea
My name is Andrea, and I used to be a closet nerd. It’s not that I wasn’t raised right or anything like that. I grew up thinking that watching Star Wars was a normal Christmas tradition and one of the best parts of school ending and summer starting was the library’s summer book club where I got free stickers and coupons for the number of books I read, which probably aided in my lifelong dream of someday becoming a published author myself. The point is I had strong nerd foundation.
But along the way, something happened. I put away, or rather, tried to hide my more nerdlike interests and focused more on my more accepted ones, sports and music and the like. What I didn’t realize is that given the proper obsessive personality and the right hobby, anything can become nerdy. Some time ago this hit me. And the funny thing is that it wasn’t during the Lord of the Rings pizza nights in college or standing in line to buy the 7th Harry Potter at midnight. No, according to my brain, I was still “normal.”
The epiphany happened while I was reading Watchmen. Most people’s epiphanies probably happen then, I would imagine. I was enjoying the graphic novel so much that I couldn’t sleep at night because I wanted to keep reading. That’s when I accepted the fact that I am a nerd. After that, a giant army of Storm Troopers and Orcs couldn’t have kept me from living this fact out to its full potential.
And that is where you find me now. New still to some geeky things, not so much to others, living my nerd life in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio where I work as a QA Analyst and continue to write.
